The Four Most Important Things when reading about the Ten things...

Lots of sites seem to provide a short list of 10 or 8 or 15 things to consider when shooting, printing, visualizing, et cetera.

Blah.  I even saw a post today about shooting the triangle.  Sure, it’s a compositional technique but it misses the point that it is one of many compositional and design techniques that [...]

Problem: Errors when uploading images into a post

Right now I’m just testing to see when I get an error

When I upload a 1×1px images I don’t get any errors. When I upload any other image from 50×50px to 5×7@300ppi (1500×2100px image) I get this error message:

Warning: imagecreatefromstring() [function.imagecreatefromstring]: No JPEG support in this PHP build in /export/home/davidw/weaver.net/wp-admin/includes/image.php on line 147

Glass I Use Regularly

This is a mini “what is in my bag post”.

I’m tough on gear. Between all my bodies I click about 60 to 80-thousand shutter releases a year. I currently shoot with Nikon D300 bodies. I have 3. Two of them are with me all the time and I have a backup [...]

To Do List (on hold - mostly)

Just as the title says, here is my todo list.

It is all on hold as my ISP is buying a new server to place WP on. The build will have updated versions of all the software/OS needed to run the latest WP. So my todo list is on hold waiting for my ISP [...]

Simply asking your subject or subjects to move a few feet so you can change the background lighting can dramatically improve your pictures.

Photography is all about light. Understanding all the light around you can really help you when shooting. We generally know where the sun is when shooting outside during the day. [...]

What is an A-List event?

I get asked this question a lot when I’m out in the field shooting.  The A-List on http://www.austin360.com is a major customer of mine.  I wear a branded shirt at every event I shoot for them so I am readily identifiable as a shooter for them.

This question isn’t well answered at an event I’m working [...]

Flexify Tutorial for Tiny Planets (and other photo fun)

The Flexify plugin for Photoshop, and other programs, is a very interesting and remarkable tool. As with any tool it can be put to both good and bad use.

There are a lot of options for Flexify. For this post I’ll show some interesting things that you can do with Flexify and I’ll show [...]

MFA or not?

Scrabble at the Beauty Bar

Dear Friends and Followers,

Should I go get my MFA in photography?

My major thoughts on this:

It’s important to love what you study and practice. I’ve been shooting since I was six or seven years old. My first major publication was in the Los Angeles Times Home Magazine when I was [...]
